Company History

Infosys was established on 2nd July 1981 by a group of seven engineers, including Narayan Murthy and Nandan Nilekani, with an initial capital of just USD 250. It made hardware electronic products like telex machines and keyboard concentrators in the 1980s. The company’s offshore custom software development business grew rapidly in the 1990s, in the aftermath of India’s economic liberalisation.

Infosys revolutionised the IT industry by pioneering the Global Delivery Model. The company rolled out its banking automation software package Bancs2000 in 1994. In March 1999, Infosys became the first Indian company to be listed on the U.S. stock exchange, NASDAQ. Throughout the 2000s, the company rapidly expanded and became a global leader in IT services and consulting.
